Definition: modal verbs
Modale Hilfsverben/modal verbs bringen die Einstellung des Sprechers zum Ausdruck (Erlaubnis, Verbot).
Sie treten in Verbindung mit einem Vollverb auf. z.B. He can climb – Er kann klettern.

Modalverb: können, dürfen
Englisch: can
Ersatzform: to be able to
Anwendung:
Fähigkeit ausdrücken: She can run.
Möglichkeit: It can be very cold in December.
Bitte bei Familienmitgliedern: Can I help you, Mum?

Ersatzform: to able to
Anwendung:
Höfliche Bitte: Could you help me?
Fähigkeit: She could run at any condition.
Höfliche Frage: Could I ask you a question, please?
